What are survival games?
In a survival game, staying alive is the win. That can mean holding out against endless zombies, being the last player standing in a battle royale, or starting with nothing and gathering enough to build a base before someone takes it from you. The pressure keeps building, so every decision counts.
Popular types of survival games
Zombie survival
Hold the line against the horde. Counter Craft 2 Zombies is a blocky shooter with fast shoot-to-kill action across several levels, and Zombie Hunter Survival lets you upgrade your arsenal as you level up between waves.
Last one standing
Battle royales where everyone else is the threat. Rocket Bot Royale puts up to 32 tanks on an island where the water keeps rising, and Build Royale starts you with only a pickaxe and makes you find weapons and defenses as you go.
Gather, build and grow
Slower survival games about resources. In Taming io you harvest wood, build a base and tame pets that fight for you, and EvoWorld io starts you as a tiny fly that has to keep eating to evolve. Idle Arks: Sail and Build 2 has you build an ark and raid pirates.
Tips for survival games
- Spend your first minute collecting, not fighting. Resources and upgrades decide the late game.
- Keep an eye on the edges of the screen. In most survival games danger comes from where you aren't looking.
- Know when to run. Surviving a fight you can't win is still surviving.
Survival games FAQ
Are survival games single-player or multiplayer?
Both. Zombie shooters like Counter Craft 2 Zombies are single-player, while Rocket Bot Royale, Build Royale and Taming io are online against other players. You'll find more of the second kind in multiplayer games.
Do I lose my progress if I die?
It depends on the game. In battle royales each round starts fresh, while games with levels and upgrades usually let you keep what you've unlocked.
