How to Play Highway Car Racer
Steer with the arrow keys or WASD: up to accelerate, down to brake or back up, left and right to turn. The camera sits behind the car, and a large analogue rev counter in the corner shows your speed in km along with the current gear, so you can watch the needle climb as you come out of a bend.
Two readouts tell you how the race is going. Top-left shows your position out of five and the lap number out of three; the right side lists all five drivers in order, so you can see exactly who you've just passed. In the frames the player moves from 4th to 3rd after cutting inside a yellow rival, then slips back again — the order changes constantly.
Alongside circuit racing, the game's premise has you covering ground on traffic-filled highways past obstacles, with your score and rewards growing the farther you drive. A green Nitro button sits on the left of the screen, and on-screen buttons are pressed with the mouse.
Tips
- Keep one eye on the driver list at the right — it tells you whether the car ahead is the one you need to pass to move up a place.
- The rev counter shows your gear as well as your speed, so you can hear and see when the car has settled into a higher gear on the long straights.
- Three laps means falling to 4th early isn't fatal; the frames show positions swapping back and forth well before the finish.
- Use the down key rather than coasting when a tight forest bend comes up, then feed the throttle back in once the car is pointed straight.
- The Nitro button is clicked with the mouse, so keep your hand on the mouse while your other hand steers.
