How to Play Russian Car Driving
You start parked in an open lot, viewed from behind the car. Steer with the keyboard, feed in the throttle and watch the large analogue speedometer on the left climb — the frames show it moving from a standstill through 84, 96 and on past 150 km/h down a long straight. On the right, a second dial tracks engine revs next to a gear number, so you can see the transmission stepping up as you accelerate.
The map is a wintry industrial city: wide grey roads, factory walls, bare trees, bus shelters and kerbs you can bump up onto. Nothing forces you down a particular route, so the loop is finding a long stretch, seeing how fast the car will go, then braking and turning before you clip a wall. Indicator icons under the rev counter cover car systems like ABS and lights. The Change Car button in the lower-left corner lets you pick a different vehicle to drive.
Tips
- Brake early. The roads look frost-covered and the car keeps rolling, so slow down before a turn rather than in it.
- Watch the rev dial and gear number on the right to feel where the engine pulls hardest.
- Long straights between the factory blocks are the best place to chase a top speed reading on the left-hand dial.
- Kerbs and raised pavements will unsettle the car — stay on the road surface when you are carrying speed.
