How to Play XO With Buddy
Play happens on a nine-square wooden grid. When the banner above the board shows your name, click or tap any empty square to drop your symbol there — green X for one side, pink O for the other. Turns alternate, and the header switches to the other player's name after each placement.
You win by getting three of your symbols in a straight line: across a row, down a column or along either diagonal. Because the squares fill fast, most of your moves do double duty — you are building your own line while covering the square that would complete your opponent's.
A sign under the board shows which round you are on, and the two portrait plaques at the top of the screen display each side's score. After a round ends the grid clears and the round number ticks up, so you keep playing fresh boards against the same opponent.
Tips
- Take the centre square when it is open — it belongs to four possible lines, more than any other square.
- Scan for a square that completes your opponent's row before you extend your own; one missed block ends the round.
- Corners are stronger than edge squares, since each corner sits on a row, a column and a diagonal.
- Watch the banner at the top of the board so you know whose turn it is before clicking.
- Set up two possible three-in-a-rows at once — your opponent can only block one of them.
