How to Play Sake Hockey
Each side of the arena holds one character-faced paddle: a hooded ninja on the left, a masked samurai on the right. You steer yours by clicking and dragging, or by sliding a finger on a touch screen. The paddle follows your pointer, so you position it to block the incoming bottle and then push forward to send it back.
The sake bottle bounces off the padded rails at the top and bottom of the table, so angled shots are as useful as straight ones. When it crosses into a goal, a large graffiti-style GOAL banner flashes over the ice and the scoreboard ticks up — the frames show Player 1 climbing from 1 to 3 while Player 2 stays on 2.
After a goal the bottle is placed back near the centre line and play restarts, so matches run as a back-and-forth race to outscore your opponent.
Tips
- Meet the bottle with a forward push instead of waiting for it — a moving paddle sends it back much faster.
- Aim into the top or bottom rail so the bottle rebounds at an angle your opponent's paddle is not covering.
- Hold your paddle a little in front of your goal mouth rather than flat against it, so you can still react to a shot that slips past your first touch.
- Watch the centre line after a goal — the bottle resets there, and getting the first hit puts you on the attack.
