How to Play Paper Minecraft
Move your character left and right with the arrow keys and use the mouse to interact with the block grid. A white square outline follows the cursor to show which block you are targeting — click it to mine that block, and the material drops into the hotbar at the bottom of the screen with a count beside it. In the frames the bar fills up with dirt, a rose, a yellow flower and sand as the player clears ground and surface plants.
Selected blocks can be placed back into the world, which is how you bridge gaps, wall off a hole or build upward. Digging straight down opens a shaft through the dirt layer into stone and ore-looking blocks below; digging sideways carves tunnels. The HUD keeps a row of hearts and a second row of item icons above the hotbar, and press E to open the full inventory when the hotbar runs out of room.
Tips
- Watch the white outline around the cursor before you click — it marks exactly which block will break.
- Dig a staircase instead of a straight shaft so you can walk back up without needing to place blocks.
- Collect surface materials like grass, flowers and sand early; they stack in the hotbar with a number so you can see how much you have.
- Keep spare dirt in the hotbar to bridge the gaps and trenches you create while mining.
- Press E when the hotbar looks full to see everything you are carrying.
- Try creative play if you only want to build, and survival when you want to gather materials first.
