How to Play European Cup Champion

Each match is a one-on-one duel on a single screen. Your hero stands in front of one goal, the opponent in front of the other, and a loose ball bounces between you. Move forward and backward with the arrow keys, jump to meet a high ball, and hit space to kick. Headers count too, so leaping into the ball's path is a real attacking option alongside a standard strike.

Goals show up on the stadium scoreboard between the two national flags, with a big GOAL banner flashing after each one. In the captured frames the score swings from 2-2 up to 4-5, so matches can stay tight and turn into a shootout. Awards pop up at the top of the screen as you play: "Hat trick" for scoring three or more goals in a single match, and "Strainer" for conceding five in a single match. Beyond single games, the game is built around five competitive leagues split into 15 brackets, plus a large pile of accessories for kitting out your hero.

Tips

  1. Use jumps to attack, not just to defend — leaping into the ball lets you head it instead of waiting for it to drop to your feet.
  2. Time the space bar to the moment the ball is in front of you; a swing at empty air leaves you standing still while the ball rolls on.
  3. Do not chase the ball to the far side of the pitch — your goal is behind you, and the frames show how fast a rally turns into a conceded goal.
  4. The "Strainer" award for conceding five in one match is a warning sign: if you are shipping goals, sit closer to your own line and clear first.
  5. Chase the "Hat trick" award by pressing when your opponent is mid-jump and out of position.
  6. Work through the league brackets to keep unlocking accessories for your hero.
