How to Play MC8Bit
You steer your character with WASD or the arrow keys. The opening stages act as a tutorial: short text boxes pop up with numbered prompts telling you where to head next, and the route is a thin blue walkway that zig-zags over empty space, with coloured tiles and small downward arrow markers set into it along the way. The green patch at the end of a walkway is the exit.
Progress is shown in the corners: a level banner in the top right (Level 1, Level 2 and onward in the frames), a timer in the bottom right that counts the seconds you have been playing, and a row of hearts in the bottom left that tracks your remaining lives. According to the game's own brief, your pickaxe is useless here, so monsters in the spooky forest have to be beaten rather than mined around, and a level's portal only appears once you have every obsidian stone in hand.
Tips
- Read the numbered tutorial prompts on the first stages — they point out which direction the walkway continues in when the path bends out of view.
- Sweep the level for obsidian stones before looking for the exit; the portal will not form until you have collected them all.
- Watch your heart icons in the bottom left — they show how many lives you have left in the current run.
- Don't count on the pickaxe against the forest monsters; the game states it won't help you there.
