How to Play Super Mario Bros Movie

You control Mario from a 2D side view as he moves right through a cartoon overworld of mountains, water and flower-lined turf. One input does everything: click the mouse on desktop or tap the screen on a phone or tablet to run and jump. That means the skill is in when you press, not what you press — short hops for single coins, longer timing for the wide gaps between brick islands.

The HUD keeps two running totals in the top-left corner: a counter next to Mario's portrait and a coin count below it. Coins sit in arcs and short rows above the ground, so following a line of them usually traces the arc of a good jump. Yellow stars hang above platforms as higher pickups, with the occasional large pink star and yellow question-mark blocks placed out of easy reach. Spiked ground sections and shell-like enemies sit between platforms, so watch the gap ahead before you commit to a jump.
