You start facing a narrow corridor with pale tiled walls, a tiled floor and a large knife held in the right of the view. Movement is on the arrow keys or WASD, and Space fires. The bar across the top of the screen shows three numbers at all times: SCORE, LEVEL and ARROWS.
The blue monster appears in the corridors ahead of you, standing right in your path. Shooting is your answer to it — in the captured frames the score climbs from 0 to several hundred as the player engages down the hallway. Between encounters the job is navigation: the maze corridors look nearly identical, so you have to push down passages and turn corners to find the route out. Other objects show up in the halls too, including a red heart sitting on the floor of the first stretch.
Reaching the exit is the goal the game sets for you, with the LEVEL counter marking your progress.
