How to Play Plants vs Zombies
The screen splits into two halves. The lower green grid is your planting area, filled with diamond-shaped slots where new plants appear. The upper half is the battlefield — a road winding past a stranded ship and houses, with raised platforms where your upgraded plants take position and shoot.
Buy plants with the coins shown in the bar at the bottom, then drag one plant onto an identical one to merge them. Two Lv.1 shooters become a Lv.2, and merging again produces a Lv.3, which deals noticeably bigger damage numbers to the zombies streaming in from the top of the map. Placed plants fire automatically, so your job is deciding what to merge and where to commit slots.
Each level has an objective panel on the left (such as destroying a set number of enemies) and a level counter across the top that advances as you clear waves. A recycle button lets you delete a plant you no longer want, and extra grid slots can be unlocked with coins.
Tips
- Merge upward whenever you have a matching pair — a single Lv.3 shooter puts out far more damage than the two Lv.1 plants that made it.
- Keep a free slot or two on the grid so newly bought plants always have somewhere to land for the next merge.
- Coins are limited at the start of a level, so spend them on plants first and save slot unlocks for when your grid is genuinely full.
- Use the recycle button to clear odd leftover plants that will never find a match instead of letting them clog the lawn.
- Watch the top of the map: zombies arrive in a tight column down the road, so have an upgraded plant already on a platform covering that path before the wave lands.
