How to Play Neo Bomberman

Neo Bomberman is a straightforward yet thrilling arcade game where players must defeat enemies and find the hidden exit to complete each level. The maze is filled with both hard and soft blocks, with the exit hidden underneath one of the soft blocks. Place bombs near these soft blocks to reveal the exit! This exit, however, only becomes available after all enemies have been destroyed.

Players are given 2 minutes per stage to accomplish this. If time runs out, you lose a life, but the timer resets if you die. You start with 2 lives, and it’s game over when both are lost. If you continue, all power-ups are lost, though 2 Bomb Ups, a Fire Up and a Speed Up will spawn onto the stage.

Game Modes

Normal Mode: The main mode where players must clear each level by eliminating all enemies to proceed.

Battle Mode: Player faces off against other Bombermen, deathmatch style. Choose from 4 different stages.

Characters

Neo Bomberman’s Battle Mode allows you to select from 12 unique Bombers, some with special abilities that you can activate via the ā€œAā€ or ā€œBā€ button (or even both at the same time, depending on the character you choose). Playable Bombers include:

  • White Bomberman
  • Black Bomberman
  • Cat Bomber
  • Fake Bomber
  • Atomic Bomber

Power-ups

Destroying soft blocks may reveal random power-ups to aid in your mission:

  • Bomb Up: Increase the number of bombs you can set, up to 4
  • Fire Up: Expand bomb’s blast radius by 1 tile
  • Full Up: Maximize bomb blast radius
  • Speed Up: Increase walking speed
  • Power Glove: Lets you lift, carry, and throw bombs
  • Clock: Adds 30 seconds to the timer
  • Skull: Inflicts random diseases, such as extremely fast or slow movement, continuous bomb setting, etc.
  • Egg: Allows you to ride certain enemies

Enemies

The goal of Neo Bomberman is to destroy all enemies in the stage, so be wary of your enemies! Enemies are either mechanical or biological, and can be found in both game modes. Other enemies are actually rideable and can give you special abilities, which you can activate by pressing the ā€œBā€ button! Rideable enemies include:

  • Mr. Bird: Can toss bombs
  • Charge: Can dash attack
  • Dokyuun: Can launch missiles
  • Nucha: Can let you walk through soft blocks
  • Dachon: Gives your character max speed

Tips, Tricks & Strategies

Adjust the Controls

The default controls are quite hard to navigate, especially if you’re not a retro game player. Thankfully, you can change the controls by hovering on the bottom left of the screen. Click on ā€œControls Settingsā€, then press the keyboard controls. Press in the keyboard the control you would like to swap the default with, and then press ā€œUpdateā€ when done.

Take Your Time

Each stage in Normal Mode gives you 2 minutes to destroy all enemies and find the exit. However, you can actually insert as many coins as you like in this version of Neo Bomberman! So if ever you lose your two lives, you can continue your gameplay anyway, as you have unli coins and the timer resets every time a player loses a life. Plus, you get power-ups!

Plan Your Bomb Placement

Avoid placing bombs carelessly, as you can trap yourself! Instead, place bombs where you can trap enemies but still provide you with an escape route.

Choose Your Characters Wisely

In Battle Mode, opt for characters with special abilities, as they provide advantages. Take note that the first four characters have no special abilities, so go try the others instead!

Destroy Rideable Enemies First

Prioritize defeating rideable enemies, as riding enemies gives you access to their special abilities. This will give you an advantage in destroying the other remaining enemies.
