How to Play Gears of War: Beat Em Up
You move Marcus along a 2D plane of shattered stone streets and broken colonnades. Each area lists how many Locust are left in the top bar, and the section only ends once that counter hits zero. Enemies come in waves of grunts, hunched Wretches and heavier armoured brutes, and some areas finish with a named boss such as the Locust Captain, who gets his own long red health bar.
Fighting means switching between three options. Melee strikes are free and keep your hit combo climbing; Lancer fire chews through tougher enemies but drains the ammo counter under your health bar; the chainsaw runs off a meter that shows READY when it is charged. Dodging gets you out of incoming swings, and the reload uses an active reload — time it well instead of mashing. Ammo crates dropped around the arena top you back up when the Lancer runs dry, and your score and combo total carry the pressure to keep chaining hits.
Tips
- Watch the chainsaw meter: it only reads READY when charged, so save it for armoured brutes rather than wasting it on a Wretch.
- Keep the hit combo alive with melee strikes between shots — the counter drives your score.
- Learn the active reload timing instead of reloading blind; being at 00 rounds with three Locust closing in is how runs end.
- Grab the ammo crates that drop mid-fight before clearing the last enemy in an area.
