How to Play 9 Patch Puzzle Quest
Each level starts with a grid and a set of numbers. Your job is to grow a rectangle around every number so that the rectangle's area — its width multiplied by its height — equals that number. Drag on a shape's edge to stretch or shrink it, and keep working until the blocks tile the whole grid without any of them overlapping.
Early boards are tiny: level 2 in our playthrough was just a 6 and a 4 sitting side by side. Later boards pack more numbers into more awkward layouts, like a 3, a 4, an 8 and a 9 stacked in a tall column, so one wrong shape leaves a leftover strip nobody can cover. When every square belongs to exactly one correctly sized block, "Level completed!" appears and you move on. There are 30 levels in total, ranging from beginner boards up to expert ones.
Tips
- Factor the number first: a 9 can only be 3x3 or 1x9, so a number with few factors tells you its shape before you touch it.
- Start with the biggest number on the board — it has the fewest possible positions and squeezes everything else into place.
- Watch the grid edges. A 1-wide leftover column usually means an earlier rectangle is the wrong way round.
- Use the restart button in the top bar when a board gets tangled; resetting is faster than untangling overlapping blocks.
- Count the total of all numbers and compare it to the grid's square count — the sum has to fill the board exactly.
